Driving licence renewal: what is the age limit and what changes after 50, 70 and 80 years old?

Driver’s License Renewal: Does Age Make a Difference?

First, there is no maximum age for driving as long as a person remains capable of operating a vehicle safely. For a Category B driver’s license, the administrative validity period is 15 years, and this period does not change based on age.

Renewing your license simply updates your photograph and personal information on the document. It does not require a driving test or exam.

Validity of a Category B License

For all drivers:
• Renewal is required every 15 years, regardless of age.

Shorter validity periods may apply only if a doctor places medical restrictions on your ability to drive. In those cases, the license might need to be renewed more frequently, but this depends on individual health conditions rather than age alone.
