DIY Patio Chandelier with Solar Lights and Wire Baskets

Materials

3 wire waste baskets (preferably black or metallic)

3 solar lights from the Dollar Store

Wire cutters

Twist ties or small cable ties

Metal chain or strong twine (length as needed for hanging)

Spray paint (optional, color of choice)

Hook for hanging (appropriate for outdoor use)

Directions

Remove the solar light tops from their bases, keeping only the parts needed for the lights to function.

If desired, spray paint the wire baskets in your chosen color. Allow them to dry completely.

Use wire cutters to make small adjustments if needed to fit the solar light tops into the basket tops securely.

Place the solar light tops into the center of each basket’s base, securing them with twist ties or small cable ties.

Attach a length of chain or twine to each basket’s rim to create a hanging loop. Ensure the baskets hang at your desired height.

Install a sturdy hook in your patio ceiling or a pergola beam, then hang the baskets at varying heights for a dynamic look.

Test the solar lights to ensure they receive adequate sunlight during the day and illuminate as expected at night.

Variations & Tips

For a personalized touch, consider using baskets of different shapes or sizes to create a more eclectic look. Add decorative elements such as beads or small baubles to the baskets for added flair. To enhance the lighting effect, choose solar lights with a color-changing feature or those that flicker like candles. If you prefer a more rustic look, use natural jute twine instead of metal chains for hanging. Make sure all materials used are weather-resistant if the chandelier will be exposed to the elements.
